Boullion is an experimental project sponsored by and designed for the garden court of Coutts bank
headquarters on the strand. It continues Coutts recent tradition of sponsoring the arts.
The piece is a reference to the history of the bank as a goldsmith. The fluid in the bricks circulates in the system much like the global monetary exchange causing the individual bricks to move up and down. The Bricks represent Coutts clients who contribute to the exchange and achieve balance through their interactions with the bank and each other.
What you see above is a 1/5th scale model of the envisioned piece. In reality each brick would be 3 meters long by 40 x 40 cm. The pump flow would be regulated by the daily banking and online activity. Linking the flow directly to Coutts clients.
